Bozeman explosion – A natural gas explosion leveled half a city block in downtown Bozeman building, centered around Boodles restaurant in the 200 block of Main Street, and extending in a 2 block radius. At 10 a.m, they’ve been unable to shut the gas off and they’re asking people to avoid the downtown area on Thursday morning, sending debris and flames towering and shattering glass windows blocks away. Four businesses were destroyed. Bozeman explosion’s reported as occurring at about 8:30 a.m, electricity shut off in area, considered 4 alarm fire.
Boodles restaurant and bar were destroyed, KBZK-TV reported. A police dispatcher said the adjacent Rockin R bar was also destroyed. Police evacuated the two blocks surrounding the businesses, housed in brick buildings.

- One person is unaccounted for after a natural gas explosion rocked downtown Bozeman this morning. MISSING PERSONS Information 582-2350 FIRE STATION # 1 at 34 North Rouse
- Current Secured Perimeter is Church to Tracy (east-west) and Lamme to Babcock (north-south).
- A law enforcement checkpoint is being established at BFD Station #1 on Rouse beginning at 7:00pm
- The area between Rouse and Bozeman (east-west) and Babcock to Mendenhall will remain completely closed due to the continuing emergency services.
- Access to parts of this block may be possible tomorrow.
- Buildings west of Bozeman Avenue may open as early as this evening or by tomorrow morning at the latest.
- Northwestern Energy is working to restore power to Asap. For several days gas service will be interrupted between Black and Rouse (east-west) and the north side of Main to Mendenhall (north-south).
- The Gallatin County Health Department is concerned about food safety issues related to the fire and smoke that may have impacted restaurants in the immediate area. Once restaurants are cleared for owner occupation, the Health Department will be available to complete food safety inspections beginning Friday morning. Restaurant owners should call the Health Department to arrange an inspection. All water is safe to drink, cook with, and bath with.
- Hawthorne Elementary School will open and operating tomorrow (Friday) for normal class schedule.
- Electrical power may be restored to the entire area as soon as this evening.
- The City and Northwestern Energy are working on solutions for buildings that do not have heat as far as the oncoming subzero temperatures and trying to prevent pipes from freezing and bursting.
- The City Building department is and will continue to inspect buildings in the immediate area to declare properties are safe to reoccupy.
