The Book of Ruth (novel)
The Book of Ruth – The Book of Ruth (1988) is a novel by Jane Hamilton, not to be confused with the novel of the same name by Helen Baker. The Book of Ruth,” Hamilton’s debut novel was published in 1988, she figured it’d be dead on arrival. Jane Hamilton was pleased with the book’s initial run of 5,000 copies and astonished when, six months later, Jane Hamilton won the Hemingway or PEN award. The The Book of Ruth became an Oprah Book Club selection, in 1996. See also the skeleton key.
Jane Hamilton kept writing, finally getting a couple stories published in Harper’s Magazine. A 20-page story she submitted became the foundation of “The Book of Ruth.”“The Book of Ruth” and “A Map of the World” have both been turned into movies.
